The Venice Film Festival which is one the oldest film festivals to date, has chosen the Egyptian movie "Al Mousafer" to take part in its official competition. The movie is produced by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and its budget has reached an approximate $3.5 million. Al Mousafer stars renowned star Omar El Sherif, Khaled Al Nabawi and Cyrine Abdel Nour. Al Nabawi pointed out during a TV interview how happy he was about this major event, he also mentioned how important Egyptian cinema is and the length that should be taken to protect it. Khaled stated that the cast will fly to Venice to attend the show. The festival takes place from the 2nd to the 12th of September, critics consider this edition of the festival to be one the most important of all time.
Al Mousafer is the 3rd Egyptian movie to participate in this festival, the previous two were "Haddouta Misriya" (1982) and "Hiya Fawda" (2007) both by director Youssef Chahine.
