Founded in 1907 and based in Cairo. Al Ahly is widely-regarded as the most successful club side in Africa. They have collected 107 titles throughout their history and were named in the year 2000 by the Confederation of African Football as the African Club of the Century and are the main feeders of the Egyptian National team with a plethora of local stars such as Mohammad Aboutreika, Ahmed Hassan, Wael Gomaa, Mohammad Barakat and Shady Mohammad.
Al Ahly began to dominate the Egyptian game in the 40s due to its popularity among people and rulers of Egypt at that period. However, it was not until the 80s that the Red Devils truly emerged to the African level, winning the top club competition in 1982 and 1987. They went on to win it four more times in the new millennium winning a 6th Champions Leagues adding to their 4 Cup-Winners Cups, 4 African Super Cups and 1 Afro-Asian Cup.
Furthermore Al-Ahly was the first club in the world to reach the FIFA Club World Cup two times following two consecutive appearances in 2005 and 2006, finishing third in the latter edition. The Reds became the team with the most appearances in the FIFA Club World Cup, being qualified for 3 times out of 5 competitions held.
Al Ahly has a fierce rivalry with bitter neighbors Al Zamalek and their clashes on the local scene are so intense that foreign referees are brought in to officiate the game.
