Dubai is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is located south of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula. Written accounts document the existence of the city for at least 150 years prior to the formation of the UAE. Dubai has a hot arid climate since it lies directly within the Arabian Desert. Summers in Dubai are extremely hot,windy and dry, with an average high around 40 °C and overnight lows around 30 °C. Sunny days can be expected throughout the year. Winters are warm and short with an average high of 23 °C and overnight lows of 14 °C.
